Pizza Party

On Wednesday our class had a pizza party!!  We were celebrating winning the Box Top challenge for the 3rd quarter.  Our class brought in an average of more than 34 box tops a piece.

The 4th quarter challenge is for a pass to the Gladbrook Theater.  Keep clipping the box tops....and don't forget to have friends and family collect them for you.

Star of the Week: Miranda

Miranda shared that she likes to go bowling.  Her favorite food is pizza and she likes Strawberry Shortcake movies.  

Miranda's dad, Matt, shared his hobby of bowling with the class.  He showed us his and Miranda's bowling balls, as well as awards and patches that they have earned.

Star of the Week: Brock

Brock shared that his favorite food is pizza.  At school he likes to do "listen to reading".  Brock also likes to go to the pool.


Brock's dad, Bob, visited with us about his job at Fishers.  He draws pictures of items that are going to be built.  He draws the instructions.

Dr. Seuss fun with Math

Yesterday, the K-2 students attended an ICN session titled "Dr. Seuss fun with Math".  The Foot Book was read to them.  They drew their family and pets and then counted the feet.  Next, students drew an imaginary character with many feet and counted those as well.  They sorted and patterned pictures of shoes, and finished by tracing their own shoe.

Star of the Week: Ashlyn

Ashlyn shared that she likes to go to the poo and to movies.  Her favorite book is Green Eggs and Ham.  Her favorite foods are popcorn and pineapple.

Ashlyn's mom, Jamie, shared about her hobby of photography.  She showed us her camera and some of the pictures that she has taken.

Greenlee's dad, Jamie, visited with us about his job in hog processing.  He told us that communication and math skills are most important for his job.

Star of the Week: Emma

Emma shared that she likes to play with friends.  Her favorite foods are steak, cinnamon rolls, and party pizza.  Her favorite movie is Punky Brewster (a blast from my past).

Emma's dad, Brett, shared about his job with Pepsi in Marshalltown.  He had a delivery truck stop by so that we could see that part of the process.  He even got a bottle of juice or water for each of the kids right off the truck.

Author visit: Ry Sloth

Ryan Sloth showed us helmets from some of the teams that he played football for.  They include the Iowa State Cyclones and this helmet from the Iowa Barnstormers.  He is currently a defensive coach for the Iowa Barnstormers.

He taught us a lot about sloths and we got to act like a sloth and pretend to get ready for school very s....l....o.....w...l....y.

Ryan Sloth read the book that he wrote to us and told us about the names of his family that he used as characters in the story.

He signed books for those students who purchase one.

We learned that fitness is an important part of keeping us healthy. We had trainers from Millennium Therapy teach us some fun ways to stay fit.

Sophie like dancing and camping.  Her favorite food is chocolate.

Sophie's dad, Brad, shared about his job at John Deere.  They work to make the equipment that farmers want and need.

Cierra likes doing Daily 5 at school.  She likes cookies and her favorite movie is New Moon.

Cierra's mom, Amy, shared about her job with the city of Marshalltown.  She pays the bills for all of the departments.

100th Day of School - Jan. 24, 2011

Thank you PTO for donating the t-shirts.  The students painted 10 dots of 10 different colors.

In the kindergarten classroom, students made scratch art on 100s.

We had so much fun popping 100 balloons in the gym.  We found surprises inside the balloons!

Star of the Week: Luke & Abby

Luke shared with the class that he likes sledding, oranges, and doing projects at school.


Luke and Abby's dad, Tony, visited with us about his job with Grundy REC.  He talked a lot about electrical safety.
